Something is not right with this sign.‘No food or drinks inside’...inside where? The words ‘the taxi’ or ‘the vehicle’ is missing. It's not a major issue, but would be pretty embarrassing for Singapore if a foreigner takes the taxi.
The following was the reply from the English Language Panel:
You’re right, there is no need for ‘inside’ to be in the sign, since the sign is already inside the taxi. Anyway, to make it as clear as it can be, we’d amend the sign to read,
‘Please ____ ______ _____ food or drinks ____ in the vehicle’.
Alternatively, we can amend it to - ‘No food and drinks ______!'

ReplyDelete2.actually not difficult because everywhere you go, u will hear people talking english.. we can eavesdrop while learning.. hehe...
3.of course it is important because when ang moh or other people ask 4 direction, we can answer back in english language... hehe.. ang moh don't know malay, tamil and chinese..
